A Birthday Celebration for Popi

` Evie demonstrates her butterfly stretch for Aunt Dellie while we wait for the rest of the family to arrive to celebrate Popi's birthday.

For he's a jolly good fellow, for he's a jolly good fellow! Hooray for Popi!

The kids all lean over to help Popi blow out the candles of his cake.

Popi and the grandkids!

Ellie really enjoyed the cake and is now trying to get every last lick of frosting from the spoon.

Evie in her traditional annual Native American headdress - pink with feathers of course!

Thanksgiving Hoopla!

We headed up to New Jersey for Thanksgiving on Tuesday where Evie spent some quality time with Grandma Bebe reading books... about Christmas, of course!

She also liked to show off her dance moves with Dad, who looks as if he has quite a bit of potential.

This is what I call Ellie's "Whatcha talking about" face.

Stan, Julianna and Evie pause before running off to the basement to play "Good Guys and Bad Guys".  Guess who was the bad guy - poor Stan.  He was a sport as always to put up with being outnumbered by the girls...

Pumpkin pie?  JJ and Evie opt for chocolate turkeys instead.

Meanwhile, Ellie practices her cheers (she later got to have half of Evie's turkey).

Oh, boy.  Looks like the girls loved their turkeys!

I guess this is bound to happen if you only try to eat the frosting...

Later that night the three cousins went on a spooky walk with Bebe around the neighborhood.

Pre-Turkey Day Fun!

Last Friday a mad scientist visited Evie's preschool and wowed the kids with experiments with dry ice, glop and glup, and other fun stuff.

Later that day, Mom took Evie to Charlottesville to celebrate Audrey's retirement from UVA after 26 years!  After the party, Evie had a great time running around the Lawn with Katie and Mason.

We pause for a picture in front of the Rotunda, which was under construction.

The three archeologists conduct a dig on the Lawn.

We had a pre-Thanksgiving dinner over at Ba's and Opa's before they head down to Florida to visit Uncle Karl, Aunty Amy and Dia.

Two dads and two little girls are all smiles!

The whole family smiles for the camera!

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you See?

This weekend, Evie had the honor of hosting "Brown Bear" from her preschool class, and we were very excited to bring her on many adventures. First stop on Saturday morning was gymnastics at the Y, which Evie just started last week.  She is a big fan and loves the rings the best. She also proudly shows off her stamp to Brown Bear.

Evie demonstrates her balancing skills with Brown Bear.

We went to a series of playgrounds all weekend because the weather was so lovely and back to 60 degrees after a cold week. Here we are at Burke Lake Park, getting ready to hit the slides.

On Sunday, we went downtown to the Natural History Museum because we wanted to show Brown Bear the butterfly garden.  Everyone loved it!  Brown Bear can't take his eyes away from the fluttering wings!

Due to her typical insect hunting skills (we call her the "fly hunter"), Ellie made a grab for and actually caught a butterfly sitting on a leaf.  We were very distressed, but when she let the butterfly go it was able to fly away to safety, thank goodness.  Knowing Ellie, she may have tried to see what it tastes like.

Two very happy sisters. Earlier that day, Mom taught Ellie how to lick her first lollipop and it took her about an hour to get through it.  Luckily the butterflies left her lollipop alone.

Evie was excited to look at all the chrysalises (chrysali?). She even was able to tell Mom that the butterflies were using their tongues to get the nectar from the flower, something she learned in her butterfly book.

Ellie clutching her lollipop and sporting her butterfly shirt for the occasion.

Evie introduces Brown Bear to one of his ancestors. Hmm... Brown Bear looks a little more cuddly.

We pause in the Ocean Life gallery where the girls are distracted by squids, jellyfish, and giant whales!   It was hard to keep up with them as they moved from exhibit to exhibit.

We end the day by checking out a new playground down the road. Whew, what a weekend! Thanks for sharing it with us, Brown Bear!

What a difference a year makes...

Just got the photos from the Blackboard Halloween party - here's the one last year where Evie was a hybrid fairy/bee/ballerina, and Ellie was a cupcake...

... and here is the little pumpkin and princess in 2012.  They are getting so big!

Trick o' treating on Lee Street

The family survived Frankenstorm and by Wednesday Lee Street was all ready for the celebration.  Evie dressed up as Cinderella and Ellie was a "Sitting Duck" (notice the little reeds sticking out of her stroller).  Both girls had a fantastic time seeing lots of friends and trick-o treating - Evie was a pro at saying thank you and got some lollipops, her favorite! She wasn't even scared of some of the ghosts handing out candy.

Evie designed the jack o' lantern this year that Daddy carved, while Mom played around with creating some glow in the dark ghost balloons... we had a fun but chilly night.  Happy Halloween!
